I liked what I read in the prologue! It all went off the rails for me in chapter two, with the introduction of a female character. How she is described and written is offensive in my personal opinion. I checked out other reviews that confirmed this isn't a book for me and it only gets worse from that scene. DNF at page 31.
I had really high hopes for this book as I'm a big monster movie fan. I made it to page 60 before calling it and there were barely any kaiju in what is overall a short book. What there was was a constant onslaught of sarcastic one-liners and current pop culture references. I wouldn't want to spend time with the main character in real life and I won't waste my time with him in a book either. DNF at page 60.
Interesting concept! I liked the idea of learning about germs and how quickly they can spread. I didn't realize how much it encouraged touching (ex. Touch your tooth) to explain how microbes can travel. Even before current world events I didn't think that should be encouraged especially in the classroom where I was hoping to share this.
This installment in the series took a little longer to hook me than the first two oh but when it did I was a goner! My only complaint was that some chapters didn't have me as invested in characters that weren't my favorites like before. However one chapter in particular was so heartbreaking I couldn't breath after and I'm sure everyone who had read it knows what chapter I mean.
I think its amazing how much I care about almost all of the characters in this series. Even if I didn't at one point there will be a scene that makes my heart reach out to them. That being said trough the whole book I didn't know who I wanted on the iron throne but by the end I was yelling the king in the north!
