See allI did not like this book at all. Maybe it's because it's a weird mixture of light horror and fantasy. Maybe it's the plodding, cross-country plot line that takes some really dull turns. But I think my biggest issue is that this book commits the cardinal sin of portal fantasy novels - the world (known here as the Territories) is less interesting than ours. This novel needed a good healthy dose of [a:Clive Barker 10366 Clive Barker https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1430330407p2/10366.jpg]. He's written basically this novel a dozen times over, and knows how to make the world and its inhabitants interesting. The best thing I can say about The Talisman is that it's not offensively bad, just mediocre. Not recommended unless you're a Stephen King completest (and god help me, I am). There's a sequel, and I'm not looking forward to reading that.
