I feel Song of Susannah is severely underrated by fans of The Dark Tower. I love it! I still don’t think it’s one of the best of the series, but I think the pace is phenomenal, I love the side characters (say Gawd bomb), all three plot lines keep me hooked throughout, and I especially appreciate the tie-ins to actual and imagined historical events. The meta way King inserts himself into the story really works for me. It draws me further into the world, and I think it’s done brilliantly. It makes the characters feel even more real.
Also, the last stanza and that final stave really hit hard, and adding the “Writer’s Journal” Coda is one of my favorite endings of any book. It delights me.
